Community Plant Sale Update

The Club’s annual Community Plant sale was very successful this year. However, there were many plants left over. Therefore we will have a second plant sale on Saturday, May 27 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This will take place at 2722 6th Avenue in the garden of one of our members.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Next Regular Meeting

The next regular meeting of the Garden Club will take place on Thursday, October 5, 2023 in the Dogwood Room at Echo Centre. The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m.

We do not meet in September. Instead we submit a Group Entry in the Fall Fair where we display flowers. fruit, and vegetables grown by our members. We follow the guidelines as outlined in the Fall Fair booklet.

New members are always welcome and may purchase a membership at our meetings. Memberships cost $20 annually.

Our guest speaker in October will be Alex Teare, Retail Partner for West Coast Seeds. Her topic is yet to be determined.

As usual, we will have a Parlour Show where members display arrangements of plants from their own gardens. The theme for the Parlour Show is yet to be determined.

There may also be a plant sale of plants donated by members for sale at reasonable prices. Past copies of Gardens West or other gardening magazines will also be available for purchase at minimal cost. And, of course, there will be a raffle.

November and January Parlour Show Topics

We are planning to have photo displays for the November and January parlour shows. This is an early warning so members can begin taking photographs now.

The themes chosen for November are Ground Covers from Hell and Favourite Blooms.

The themes chosen for January are Water on the Go and Garden Thugs.

Please start thinking about these themes and get your cameras ready so you will be prepared for the Parlour Show displays in November and January!

Garden Club Fall Fair Display

The Club got a first prize ribbon for their display at the Fair this year. It is the biggest ribbon we have ever received! We had 29 visitors sign up expressing an interest in attending our regular meetings. Hopefully we will see many of these people at our meetings.

Many thanks to Craig Hebert for putting together the small gift packages that were distributed to members of the public at the display. Thanks also to the ten members of our Club who were at the display to answer questions about the Club and about the items in the display.

We look forward to next year when we will again enter the Fair.

Garden Club History

                                Mount Klitsa Garden Club.

The Mount Klitsa Garden Club was formed on March 24,1955 at the home of Ann Thomson of McCoy Lake. There were 15 members present. Meetings were held at Kleecoot schoolhouse (water bomber base) and members homes. The club’s emblem is the trillium. Our emblem was chosen due to the conservation and protection of this flower by the efforts of the Mount Klitsa Garden Club. The Conservation Law was passed by the government in 1958.

In 2001 the club gave a large donation to West Coast General Hospital for the purchase of tropical plants in the atrium (health square).
